Updates to Gemini in Google Drive
The Google Workspace Updates blog recently announced some enhancements to Gemini’s capabilities within Google Drive. Last March, the Gemini side panel was introduced, allowing users to create new files and folders using natural language prompts. This was a step toward streamlining organizational and creation workflows.
Now, Gemini in Drive has even more powerful organizational features. You can now use natural language to move selected files into a specific folder. This means that instead of manually dragging and dropping, you can simply type a command like, “Move the selected file to my ‘Quarterly Reports’ folder.” The new feature works with various prompts, including:
- Creating a new folder with a specific name in a chosen location, like “Create a new folder in My Drive called Q2 forecast.”
- Moving a specific file to an existing folder, for instance, “Move the Q1 wrap-up file in my Q1 forecast folder to the Q2 forecast folder.”
- Creating a new document within a designated folder, such as “Create a new presentation in the Q2 forecast folder.”
