Easily find and navigate your Google Chat conversations by organizing them into custom sections

What’s changing

Organize Google Chat Conversations with Custom Sections

Google Chat now allows users to organize their conversations into custom sections, providing a more streamlined and efficient way to manage chats. This highly requested feature enables users to group similar conversations, such as those related to a specific project or topic, in a dedicated section within the left-hand menu.

Creating a custom section is a straightforward process. Users can simply hover over the three-dot menu in the direct messages or spaces section, select “Create new section,” name the section, and press enter. Conversations can then be added to the custom section by dragging and dropping them from other sections or by using the three-dot menu to move the conversation. This enhanced organization feature can help users better manage their Chat conversations and improve overall productivity.

New Update to Google Chat Enhances Navigation and Organization

Google Chat has updated the way users navigate and interact with their conversations. Previously, the direct messages and spaces sections in the left-hand menu were separate, individually-scrollable lists. Now, these sections are unified into a single, cohesive conversation list.

This update offers several benefits, including the ability to:

  • Scroll through all sections seamlessly.
  • View top conversations across each section for quick access.
  • Expand sections to “Show all” conversations, making it easier to find older or less frequent chats.

This streamlined navigation experience makes it simpler for users to manage their conversations and stay organized within Google Chat.
