What’s changing
New Building Blocks in Google Docs
Google has introduced a new collection of building blocks in Google Docs to help you manage important business workflows. These building blocks include:
- Task trackers: Quickly add and track tasks with titles, assignees, due dates, and status in a cleanly organized format. You can add your own columns for more personalization. New tasks with an assignee and title can be synced with Google Tasks individually or by syncing the whole table at once.
- Project trackers: Organize your projects with project trackers. They include sections for title, owner, status, start date, due date, and automatically calculated percentage complete.
- Hiring and onboarding: Streamline the hiring and onboarding process with building blocks for candidate tracker, job description template, and onboarding checklist.
These new building blocks can help you save time and improve your productivity.

New Contact List Building Block
Google Docs has added a new building block to help you organize contact information for applicants, sales contacts, team members, project assignments, and more. The Contact list building block offers a structured table format that breaks out critical contact information into glanceable columns that are clear and easier to read.

Decision Logs in Google Docs
Google Docs now includes decision logs to help centralize open questions, aid in decision-making, and organize final decisions in an easily-digestible table. With decision logs, teams can quickly align around a single source of truth with clear owners.

Easier Access to Building Blocks
You can now access building blocks more easily in Google Docs. To get started, click the buttons at the top of a newly created document or go to Insert > Building blocks. You can also access a new Docs sidebar by going to Insert > Building blocks > View more or by clicking “More” at the top of a new document. This sidebar makes it easier to browse, find, and preview building blocks in context.

Improved Table Building Blocks
Google has also made some improvements to table building blocks in Google Docs. These improvements include:
- Table title rows: A formatted, full-width row with heading styling. Table title rows allow you to clearly call out a visually appealing table name and saves you time from formatting manually.
- Column types: Set a data type (dates, dropdown chips, files, or people) and provide friendly warnings when table content does not match, ensuring your table data is accurate and organized.
These improvements make it even easier to use tables in your documents.
