What’s changing
Google Vids, an AI-powered video creation app for work, is now generally available for select Workspace editions. This app is designed to help teams across various departments, including customer service, learning and development, project operations, and marketing, create engaging video content.
Several use cases are emerging for Vids. Customer service teams are using it to create video supplements for help center articles, enhancing customer support. Leaders are leveraging Vids for company-wide updates and announcements. Learning and development teams are using it for scalable employee training. Marketers are creating internal recaps of campaigns and events. Project management teams find it useful for sharing meeting recaps, business updates, and reports.
Vids utilizes Gemini’s AI capabilities to streamline video creation. The “Help me create” feature can generate an initial, editable storyboard from a prompt and a Google Drive document. Users can then select a style, and Gemini will assemble a video draft with suggested scenes, stock media, text, scripts, and background music.
Beyond the initial creation process, Google Vids offers a variety of tools and resources. Users can leverage use-case-based templates to begin a new video project. Motion can be incorporated through animations, transitions, and photo effects. Customization is possible using the Vids royalty-free stock content library or personal media from Google Drive or Google Photos.
Scriptwriting is also supported within Vids. Gemini can suggest scripts to provide a starting point, or users can write their own. Voiceovers can be added by selecting a preset AI voice from Gemini or recording a personal voice using the built-in teleprompter with Gemini read-along and rolling features. The in-product recording studio allows users to add a video recording of themselves, a screen recording with narration, a screen recording combined with a video recording, or an audio-only recording.
Google Vids shares similarities with other Workspace apps like Docs, Sheets, and Slides, featuring a user-friendly interface. It also supports real-time collaboration and secure project sharing directly from the browser.
Overall, Vids is designed to empower users to create engaging videos that amplify their message, foster connections, and stand out within their organization.
